A dos semanas previas al regreso a clases presenciales en la Ciudad de México, padres de familia, personal educativo y gobierno comienzan a preparar las instalaciones escolares de planteles públicos y privados para regresar a clases en la nueva normalidad.
Y hablando de educación y planteles públicos y privados, hoy les voy a contar la historia del Calmécac y el Telpochcalli, las dos escuelas de los antiguos aztecas. Y es que podrán decir lo que quieran de los mexicas, “que eran salvajes, bárbaros y demás”, pero también, la mexica, fue de las primeras civilizaciones del mundo que dijo que los jóvenes merecían recibir una educación de calidad en una escuela supervisada por el estado para convertirse en buenos ciudadanos.
Cuando eran pequeños, los niños aprendían de su familia, toda la cultura azteca: la vida, la muerte, las virtudes y bajezas humanas, sus ceremonias, su religión, su calendario… en fin, todo. Eso era lo que les daba los primeros cimientos.
Un poco mayores, alrededor de los 10 años, los padres debían mandar a sus hijos e hijas a alguno de los dos tipos de escuelas disponibles.
Una era el Calmécac, quienes allí asistían generalmente eran hijos de nobles y su enseñanza era más del tipo intelectual para convertirse en dirigentes políticos o militares, sacerdotes, médicos, astrónomos o maestros.
La otra opción para estudiar era el Telpochcalli, generalmente acudían quienes no eran hijos de nobles y su enseñanza era más de tipo práctico: militar, atléticas, artesanía, caza o agricultura. Ahí también estudiaban los futuros grandes guerreros, quienes tenían un papel muy importante en la sociedad mexica.
Pero no todo era cuestión de clases sociales, si un chico o chica mostraba tener grandes aptitudes intelectuales y estaba en el telpochcalli, era transferido a un calmécac, aunque fuera hijo de padres humildes. Y si otro chico de un calmécac mostraba tener grandes aptitudes atléticas, era transferido a telpochcalli para ser entrenado como guerrero.
